lr-mame cannot be updated

Description

I try and update packages via retropie setup and I always get this error message:
git ls-remote https://github.com/libretro/mame.git ^{} failed with return code 1 - please check your network connection. This is in contrast to the logs which seem to suggest no issues at all?

Yes. My Internet has no problems. None of them have an update because I just ran the script very recently.

@Vader77Darth no problem with a recent RetroPie version (using RaspiOS/Trixie).
Please use the forums for support questions, as directed in the issue template - this doesn't seem like an issue with the installations script.

I am on the most recent retropie using trixie. If this isn't an issue with the installations script, then what is it?? I run retropie setup and go to update, everything seems fine and then the error message shows up (despite logs seemingly being fine)

I'll re-open this since I've seen this error, - though not on RaspiOS, but on an Ubuntu 26.04 installation. Sorry @Vader77Darth for closure - can you run git --version and post the output ?

It could be that

• git ls-remote works and outputs the correct text, but the return code is not 0, hence the setup script saves the erroneous command and shows it at the end of the run
• git ls-remote is blocked by Github selectively as a rate-limiting measure.
• an error in how we call git from the script

Edit: turns out is option #3 and not a git problem.
