Anyone know why fstream 1.0.11 is being installed when node-gyp package.json says "fstream": "^1.0.0", which should match 1.0.12?

should be changed to:

I'm pretty sure this only affects node-gyp 3.8.0 and older.

node-gyp 4.0.0 and 5.0.0 don't depend (at least directly) on fstream anymore and use "tar": "^4.4.8" already.

So your actual issue is that some other package is depending on an older version of node-gyp.

I think this issue is only relevant if node-gyp v3 or older are still maintained and if they should get bug/security fixes or not (to update those deps).

this got sorted for node-gyp 5 and backported (gently) to 4, you should update your node-gyp or npm if you're experiencing this
