This is probably related to the main lychee version bump.
In your action, you can see in the logs that the succeeding one is using lycheeVersion: v0.19.1 (Action v2.5.0),
the failing one uses lycheeVersion: v0.20.0 (Action v2.6.0).

Regarding the "No links found" error message, it also looks like it's only shown as part of the summary? Not after tool execution? Meaning with jobSummary disabled, one does not see the hint at all?

I'm running in similar issues with the new lychee 0.20.0 via the new GH Action as well:
In my case I'm extracting + dumping links to a md file in a first step with --dump.
Only in a second step I use this file as input to perform actual link checking.
Neither of the steps are failing for me as 1 link is found (instead 2k with lychee 0.19.1).

Not 100% sure yet, but @thomas-zahner and me think that lycheeverse/lychee#1816 fixes the issue. Basically, it's not a bug, but a change in behavior introduced in lycheeverse/lychee#1559.

Our proposal is to change the behavior when the user explicitly uses a glob pattern. In this case, the files matching the glob pattern will always be checked. They have higher priority than the extensions set with --extensions. If a directory is specified as another input, the extensions will only be checked for the directory, not glob inputs.

In my case, I only use
args: --dump -- file.xml
in a first step to extract links and dump to a links.md file

And
args: --no-progress --require-https --cache --max-cache-age 8h -- links.md
for the actual checking later.

No globs, no directory, no extensions set.
With 0.19.1 there are 2.000 links checked, with 0.20.0 it's only one single link.

We just released a new version, which should hopefully fix both of your issues. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Now we always check all files, which were explicitly specified, no matter the file extension. That is most likely what users expect. Previously, lychee file.xml didn't do anything, because XML was not part of the default extensions. The same is true if a file is part of a glob pattern.

For directories (e.g. lychee .), we still apply the default extensions, which can be overridden with lychee --extensions, which takes a comma-separated list of file extensions.
