The directory "" is not writeable

I have downloaded the latest version of phinx, setup composer and phinx. Now everytime I try to create a new migration project I come up against the following problem:

$ mkdir newpro; cd newpro
$ php ../vendor/bin/phinx init
$ php ../vendor/bin/phinx create MyNewMigration

Phinx by Rob Morgan. version 0.2.5
using config file ./phinx.yml
using config parser yaml
using migration path

[InvalidArgumentException]
The directory "" is not writeable

create [-c|--configuration="..."] [-p|--parser="..."] name

Im not sure if this is a bug or whether I am doing something wrong but can you please advice.

Yes it was. I did not create a migrations folder in the directory hence why I was receiving the error. You should update the getting started doc since it omits some crucial steps, for example, there was no mention of "phinx init" to create the yaml file or the fact that I had to add a migrations folder, I discovered these steps whilst going through a tutorial on another website.

In any case, you should handle that exception.

P.S. EXCELLENT project and kudos to you and the other developers for your hard work. 👍

Make sure the migrations folder exists (and writeable if on linux).

shady, can you provide the link to the tutorial you went through to get
phinx working?

First I got this...

so i poked around a bit and saw there was a phinx.yml file elsewhere so I
saw the contents and then filled out the info and moved it, now I get the
following...

The directory "" is not writeable

Please update your documentation as I'd really love to check out phinx!

thanks for your reply

I was a little frustrated at first but I was able to get it working.

After I got through the initial setup I ran into an unrelated issue with php pointing to the wrong php install on my Mac, I'm running AMPPS and kept getting socket errors when trying to connect to mysql to perform a migration.

My only suggestion is to try and make the documentation more "noob" friendly! Maybe have a list of common errors and how to remedy them? I do have some other suggestions from playing around with Phinx.

This is my first experience with migrations and I absolutely love it! Thanks for such a great package!

Just hit this error myself, more useful error message or clear step in the docs please ! (happy to contribute too). Great project btw, many thanks to @robmorgan @detook and all devs
