Feature proposal: Enhanced LD2410 support with distance data

Hi,

Thanks again for starting with this integration, I bought a coffee a while ago.

I've been working on enhancing the SHS01 firmware with additional LD2410C data extraction:

• Distance measurements (moving, static, detection in cm)
• Energy/confidence values (0-100)
• Distances zero when no target detected
• Clean separation: ld2410_enhanced component with callbacks

All original features preserved. I have a working Z2M external converter as well.

I also tried per-gate sensitivity but the values wouldn't update in real-time in Z2M so I removed it. I've ordered an LD2450 and plan to experiment with dual-sensor setup for zone detection.

Sorry I haven’t had any time to work on this project lately. Been super busy with work and life. I’m glad you found it useful and decided to improve it.

Just keep in mind that distance reporting can generate a lot of Zigbee traffic, and it can easily overload or destabilize a mesh network. I have it implemented in one version, but for it to work reliably it needs frequent updates. That creates heavy traffic, slows down the network, and adding two devices with that cluster almost guarantees delays for other devices or even a full network crash.

I’m curious to see what else you come up with. :)

No worries at all :) You're my favourite smart home source, I genuinely get excited every time I see a new article come-up in my RSS app, so it's a pleasure to help.

I was also made redundant from my 5 year job about 3 weeks ago so it gives me something to do to stay healthy mentally while looking for another job.

Very fair points about the traffic, thank you for raising that.

There's an Engineer toggle (I could rename that "Debug mode") so perhaps it would work best to log distances only if the toggle is ON, what do you think? I could implement the same logic when I get to integrate the LD2450 for any sensor that reports every X second to avoid spamming the network. That way it can still offer those measurements without removing them completely.

In terms of performance, it's been honestly amazing. I've had it since Oct and it's been great, never a false trigger. In fact much better performing than some of my other sensors like FP1E or FP300. I was a huge fan of the FP1 but was disappointed in every product ever since. Three days ago I've moved the LD2410 to a room where I've had FP1E for about a year and occasionally failing to detect presence (despite regular reboots and tweaks).

I also don't know what's under the hood for those so called "AI learning" features, it's never made a difference for me so now I'm ready to ditch Aqara completely and go down the DIY route since the C6 + LD2410 has been working better.

Will keep you updated on my findings with dual sensor integration. I'll also see if I can make the firmware flashing a bit easier as well as I saw a few comments that people struggled. Not sure if there's a way yet but I'll dig into it!
