Github's status page flags no issues but I am noticing significant degradation in service when pulling packages from the registry.

Yo @crjc — same here man. Status page green but pulls are crawling. Classic "it's not us, it's you" from GitHub
Quick checks:
Which registry? GitHub Packages (npm.pkg.github.com) or npmjs? Different infra, different problems.
Where you pulling from? Corporate network? Might be proxy/filter doing "security scanning" on every package. Kills speed.
Try npm install-verbose see exactly where it hangs. Could be one specific package, not all.
If it's GitHub Packages specifically:
They had an incident earlier today (Copilot chat went down too). Might be residual load.
Try pulling from a different region: npm.pkg.github.com vs us-east-1 mirror if you have access.
Nuclear option:

npm cache clean --force
npm install --prefer-offline

Real talk this is exactly why I track my dev environment issues weekly. Used to waste hours on "is it me or is it down" Now I just log it, move on, fix it in next week's PR.
